Remembering Gwendolyn Ruth Hall 'Gwen'

Gwendolyn Ruth Hall (Mace)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Gwen Hall, who passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 98. Her final days were in palliative care at Georgian Bay General Hospital, Midland, attended by her loving family.

Gwen was born in Toronto, Ontario, on March 1, 1927, the beloved first daughter of Bert and Mabel (Lucas) Mace.

Loving wife of her late husband Bob of 60 years; predeceased by her parents and her younger sister Elinor Dickinson (Mace), as well as her eldest son Bobby and her grandson Kyle.

Gwen was a devoted mom to Gary (Claire) Hall, Debbie (Brian) Scott, and Randy (Sandy) Hall. Her love was unconditional.

Nana, as she was affectionately known, to her eight grandchildren, Lucas (Stephanie), Hannah (Luuk), Angela (Steven), Cory (Darcey), Erin (Nicole), Kelly (Mark), Valerie (Mara) and Shane (Erika).

Proud Great Nana to her 15 great-grandchildren, Emma, Sydney, Zoey, Berty, Tess, Molly, Shea, Max, Silah, Atticus, Jack, Luke, Colton, Eli and Silas.

Gwen will be remembered for her generous spirit by her nieces Lynne and Anne, her nephew Vic, and their families.

She leaves behind good friends and neighbours.

Gwen was active throughout her life. Her favourite activities included tap dancing, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, archery, speed skating, curling, golf, and gift shopping. She was community-minded and volunteered into her senior years. Gwen’s enthusiasm for life was evident to everyone who knew her.

When Gwen was 8, her family started vacationing at Balm Beach. Within a few years, they built a cottage on Belgrove Cres., where they vacationed every summer. Gwen and Bob replaced the cottage with a log home, and in 1992 they retired there. Keeping with tradition, their home remained a cherished place for the family. For over 80 years, the cottage was a gathering place where the family vacationed every summer.

A cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date on the shore of Georgian Bay.

To reflect Gwen’s love of nature and her family’s long history with Georgian Bay, memorial donations may be made to Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre at www.wyemarsh.com

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Bayfield Retirement House for providing Gwen with a caring home over the past eight years. We would also like to thank the staff of Georgian Bay General Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days.

Cremation entrusted to the J.H. Lynn Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 290 First Street, Midland, 705-526-6551. Online Messages of Condolence are welcome at www.carsonfuneralhomes.com.
