It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Joseph Sears on March 1, 2025, at the age of 62, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Eric was born on November 7, 1962, and grew up surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind his beloved sons, Bradley Sears and Bryon Sears (Stacy), and his cherished granddaughters, Trinity Sears and Amelia Mainprize. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Robinson (Charlie), nephews, and many extended family members and friends. Eric was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Sears.
A man of many talents and interests, Eric worked for Orillia Water, Light and Power for many years, where he dedicated himself to his work with pride and diligence. Outside of his professional life, Eric was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing baseball as a young adult, hockey as a child, and continued his love of sports as a devoted supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Bills. Eric also found joy in reading always seeking out new books to dive into.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Cancer Care team at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, and RVH. A special thank you goes to Dr. Peter Daniel for his care and kindness during this difficult time.
Eric’s friends and family will remember him for his kindness, strength, and sense of humour. He had a special bond with his dear friend Brenda Teskey, who supported him through his illness with unwavering love and care.
Eric’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics Orillia, or Orillia Eagles Hockey.
Rest in peace, Eric. You will be deeply missed.
