It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Jacob Gill (Don) of Orillia and Kingston ON, Saturday January 18th, 2025, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. This relentless disease did not steal Don’s sense of humor or his ability to remain the gentleman that he was throughout his life. A devoted and proud family man, who loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family at the lake, he leaves behind a small village, his wife Elinor (nee O’Neil), daughter Angela Morin (Ken) and son Chris Gill (Sherry). Beloved grandfather of Amanda Morin (Steve Ferrence), Gillian Morin, Samantha Charlton (William), Abigail Gill, Jackson Gill and his great grandsons Arlo (“Papa fix it”) and Ernie. He will be greatly missed by his sister Janet Kennedy (Gary) as well as many nephews, nieces and his long time buddy Les Weatherby.
A gentleman of great integrity, Don had a successful career in the financial industry starting as a bank teller for Victoria and Grey Trust. He worked his way up the ladder, through multiple acquisitions, retiring 36 years later as Regional Vice President of National Trust (Scotiabank). Retiring to his hometown of Orillia on beautiful Lake St. George he was surrounded by beauty, friends and family, continuing to maintain years’ long relationships with those he met along the way. The compassion and support that has been provided to his family during this difficult period is proof of the love and respect felt by all who knew him.
We /he would like to thank Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and the incredible Mariposa House Hospice for their compassionate care. It takes a special kind of person to provide the care they so graciously do, for both the patient and their family. We will forever continue to support this special home that makes the best of a bad situation.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Mariposa House Hospice https://www.mariposahousehospice.com/inmemory/ or your local residential hospice. Rest in peace. “Death ends a life, not a relationship”. A true legend.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Carson Funeral Homes – L. Doolittle Chapel 54 Coldwater St. E Orillia (705)326-3595.
