Remembering Alan Morris Tully 'Al'

The world lost a good man with the passing of Alan (Al) Tully on August 21, 2024 at the age of 68. He battled cancer the same way he lived his life; with humour, strength and determination.

Being quick witted, thoughtful and intelligent, Al always strived to do his best in everything he did. This earned him esteem and service awards during his 36 years of policing but career was only a small aspect of his life. He had diversified interests from football to music while his adventurous spirit lead him travelling to explore and experience new people and places. He was caring and generous to his family and friends and many will recall Al laughing sharing a story while enjoying a good meal with a glass of wine. Caring deeply about animals, he never passed up an opportunity to rescue a stray.

He will be greatly missed by his adoring wife, Jessica along with friends and family both here and in Scotland.  Cremation has taken place, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in his name can be made to an animal rescue of your choice and will be accepted by Carson Funeral Homes – L.Doolittle Chapel 54 Coldwater St. E Orillia, Ontario  (705)326-3595.

Al ,along with Leon Jenkins took me out to learn to drive after dad was shot and I needed to quickly get my license ...we were driving for a bit and all of a sudden Al said "hey, haven't I seen you driving before?"which he had ,I'd been goofing around town driving my friends truck for a year without a license...we had a laugh over that and he did mention that it was kind of a dumb thing to do...also he and Peter Hayes were set up in dads basement monitoring a house around the corner through phone tap and hidden microphones trying to catch a con artist in the act who was ripping off older folks...my little sister would bring him pizza and sweets while he sat down there listening to "stuff"....such a good guy

Al and I started with the Orillia Police Service back in the summer of 1978 and later in our careers shared a office together when the service expanded its plain clothes unit. Lots of good times and excellent policing with a community well served by all members. Saddened by the loss with thoughts and prayers offered. Rick Fraracci

My heart is breaking for Al's family and friends. I had the profound privilege of working with Al at the Orillia City Police and then continue to stay in touch over many years. He was such a good friend, always asking about what was going on with me as he struggled during his battle with cancer. He was definitely one of a kind. Badge #29 forever. Never to be forgotten
