Remembering Edward Peter Godden 'Ed'

Ed passed away July 31st after an unexpected and short battle with an aggressive cancer. He was the devoted husband of Tracey Godden, loving father of Mason Godden (Caroline Kennedy) and Claudia Godden, and father-in-law to Tanner Foster. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ellen Godden and is survived by his brother Vic Godden. He will be sadly missed by his rescued animal family.

Ed lived his life selflessly. He approached every day with one goal in mind- give. He gave everything and more to his beloved animal sanctuary. He was so happy to learn new things and accomplish any task on the farm for his human and animal family. He also loved working at Carson’s Funeral Homes and he loved his work family. He showed up everyday with genuine happiness and positivity. He will forever be loved and cherished by them.

It was impossible not to know how special Ed was. He will forever live on through all of the people and animals he’s touched and through the goodness he brought into the world.

The family wants to say a special thank you to Carson’s Funeral Homes for their unconditional support during this tragic time- your Eddie would be so thankful. The family would also like to thank Dr. Italiano from Soldiers Memorial Hospital for his unwavering commitment to advocating for Ed during his long and confusing stay in the hospital.

At Ed’s request, no service will be held. But to honour Eddies memory and the selfless life he led, he would be grateful for memorial donations to be made to his sanctuary- Winnie’s Place.

Dear Tracey, Mason and Claudia; Tracey, we met many many years ago at Marnie and Dave Green’s home in Dunnville when Mason was about 2 and obsessed with Thomas the Train. So sorry we lost touch throughout these many years. We have only just heard of Ed’s sudden illness and death, and are both so shocked and saddened by the loss of this wonderful man. From Kevin: I had the privilege of working with Ed the first six years of Robert Land Academy. He was the Director of Studies but like all of us in the early years we filled many roles doing whatever was necessary from digging ditches to creating curriculum. We worked together through seemingly unending long days, overnight duties, fall exercises and marches. Ed’s leadership, energy and most importantly positive attitude and sense of humour helped make it all doable and tolerable. I sincerely believe that without his hard work and guiding hand RLA could not have become the success it is. Staff and students, without exception liked and respected Mr Godden. We were coworkers who always worked well together, respected each other’s abilities, and never had a single harsh word or conflict despite the pressures and exhaustion of the early years at RLA. He remains one of the smartest, hardest working and simply best people I have ever worked with but most importantly we shared a sense of humour that got us through some tough times. He was a good and true friend ,and I consider myself very lucky to have started my teaching career working with Ed. l am sure he will be fondly remembered by all of us, staff and students who were lucky enough to survive the founding years of RLA together. Again, our sincere condolences to all of your family, and Vic (who worked with us for a short time too!) Kevin and Trenny Dockrill

I knew Ed when he worked at the Ministry of Skills Development. I was surprised to see him at the Ontario Fire Colleg, and was so happy that we could continue our friendship, until he retired. Ed was a great individual and a funny guy. My condolences to the entire family.
