Remembering Brian William Barr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Barr due to post operative complications on July 26th, 2023, at Orillia’s Soldier’s Memorial Hospital.

Brian was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Joan, children Mike (Andra) Barr, Patty (Graham) Ascough, Grandchildren Jonathan (Anelle) Ascough, Andrew Ascough, Kristopher Barr, Meghan Barr and Great-grandson Robert Ascough. Son of Robert and Christine Barr, elder brother to Jan Fox Howlett (Bill Howlett), Brenda (Bob) Ernst, Rob Barr (Dawn Simkin) and Colleen Barr (deceased).

His generous and caring nature extended to all of his family. Brian was delighted in the company of family and took great pleasure in watching them all grow and succeed.

Through his life, Brian was an entrepreneur involved with a large variety of businesses from foundry manufacturing to wholesale distribution. He actively supported charitable organisations and worked tirelessly to create opportunities for others.

Brian’s passions included the outdoors, where he found solace in nature…as long as it was on the golf course! He loved the game and the camaraderie that he shared with fellow golf enthusiasts, both on the course and for the gin games that followed. He touched the lives of many people through his genuine spirit of kindness, his zest for life and love of fun and friendship.

A visitation will be held at Carsons Funeral Home – L.Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater Street East, Orillia (705)326-3595 (https://www.carsonfuneralhomes.com/) on Thursday August 3rd, 2023, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Toronto Golf Club, 1305 Dixie Road, Mississauga (https://www.torontogolfclub.com/) on Tuesday August 8th, 2023, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital General Surgery and ER https://osmhfoundation.ca/donate/, Mariposa House Hospice https://pages.sumac.com/sumac/sumac_start_new_session.php?package=donation2&userfolder=../ORG/mariposahousehospice&d2deffund=111 or your charity of choice, reflecting Brian’s decision to make a positive impact to his local community.

As we bid farewell to Brian, let us remember the smiles and the laughter and know that he always lived life “at the top of his game”. Deeply missed and fondly remembered.
