Our dear Tilli passed away, courageously, in her 102nd year! She was an extraordinary woman~Loving Daughter,Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandma, Friend, Army Nurse, Guidance Counsellor, Teacher, Travel Agent, Community Volunteer, and as a friend described her, “a real firecracker”! Born just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, she faced challenges of a great depression, war, and a post war world and of changing roles for women. She had two great passions in her amazingly long life, family and the windswept shores of Georgian Bay!
She had a big heart, a quick wit, and was always, unapologetically, herself! She faced issues head on with her devoted husband, Art (pre-deceased) at her side and never shied away from controversy or big snowstorms when the family moved to Canada! Her generosity, and her kind heart were known by those she touched. Tilli was an avid reader, cross-word puzzler, Scrabble player, sports enthusiast, and had a huge collection of teddy bears and wind up toys which, of course, were always “magnets” for her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren!
Tilli will be deeply missed by her daughter, P. Jaye Bennett & partner, Karen, and son, A.V. “Terry” Bennett & wife, Leslie, her Grandchildren, Richard Hamer and family, Kate Sweeney & husband, Alan and Will Bennett & wife, Ruby. She was “over the moon” about her Great Grandchildren, Una & Oisín Sweeney and Claire & Charlie Bennett. Her furry Grand dogs will miss her lovable pats. And her wonderful American family will miss her “sparkle”! Tilli is the last of her generation!
We can’t thank the wonderful “angels” at Mariposa House Hospice, enough, for accompanying Tilli on her last three day journey and the kind staff of Georgian Bay General Hospital! We want to thank the staff and her friends at the Bayfield Retirement Home for all their T.L.C., the caring Bayshore nurses, and a special thank you to Colleen, who was such a great friend and support for Tilli over these many years!
Tilli’s Celebration of Life will be held at Carson Funeral Homes – L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E Orillia (705) 326-3595 on Saturday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m. including a visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Service will be officiated by Tilli’s son, the Rev. Terry Bennett, with special readings from her family. A luncheon will be served following the Service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mariposa House Hospice would be most welcomed and appreciated!
