“We are celebrating a century of providing caring and supportive service to this wonderful community.” [Dave Carson—LFD Owner|Operator]
This family-owned and operated funeral home sets itself apart by delivering a hands-on level of service, with owner Dave Carson personally available to offer guidance and support. “It’s all about helping families during their grieving process”.
In an industry where profit-driven corporate chains have overshadowed local establishments, Carson Funeral Homes “remains steadfast in their commitment to personalized service and genuine care”. Their approach ensures that families receive the utmost support during their time of need. They firmly believe that compassion should always take precedence over financial gain, making affordability and education their top priorities. By fostering a nurturing and empathetic environment, they are able to guide families towards closure and healing in a supportive and caring manner.
“I grew up in this area, went to school here, and am an active member of the community. I am the current Board Chair of Mariposa House Hospice, the Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and sat on the local hospital foundation board. There’s a certain comfort level of dealing with someone you know and trust, especially during difficult times.”
Located at 54 Coldwater Street East, once the site of a distinguished doctor's office, Carson’s L. Doolittle Chapel stands as a testament to the rich history of the area. Three prominent Orillia families have served as owners of the funeral home: the Doolittle family in 1923, the Crawford family in 1932 and Bob Carson, Dave's father, in 1982, solidifying the funeral home as a true family business. For over four decades, two generations of Carsons worked side by side until Dave took on the responsibility of continuing the family legacy following his father's passing in 2014.
The funeral home underwent renovations in 2017 to create a more comfortable and welcoming space for all types of services: basic, contemporary or traditional. By adapting to the evolving needs of their community, they ensure that each and every service, regardless of its scale, formality, informality, or individuality is customized and mirrors the distinctive life of the deceased. Carson Funeral Homes guides families in planning and carrying out their loved ones’ end of life wishes by managing a wide range of service offerings, spanning from informative meetings about preplanning advantages to basic cremation options, and from intimate farewell gatherings to grand, traditional services that incorporate celebrations of life.
Dealing with all the details in the aftermath of a loved one’s death can be overwhelming, and that’s where the team at Carson Funeral Home, known for their dedication and trust, plays a crucial role in providing a consistent level of care and compassion. They work within budgets, never apply high pressure sales tactics, provide information to help families make informed decisions, and handle all the arrangements, allowing the families they serve to focus on their emotional needs.
The Carson Family and team have a long history of giving back to the community. They continually support the OSMH Foundation, of which Dave was a Board member for years, Mariposa House Hospice, of which Dave is the current Board Chair, the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, which Dave is a Past President of, Orillia Hospice through the Hike for Hospice, Mariposa Folk Festival as a stage sponsor, little league soccer, little league baseball, and a host of other community events and initiatives.
