Remembering Jason Joseph Dunn

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Jason Dunn. Jason Joseph Dunn, age 37, of Penetanguishene passed away suddenly on January 17, 2018. Although Jason suffered from chronic illness and incurred many serious health issues throughout his life, it was a tragic and unforeseen event that ultimately took our angel to heaven too soon. Jason was born on February 8, 1980 in Vancouver, B.C. to his mother Linda Dunn. Quickly after his premature birth, he was diagnosed with a chronic lung disease, which forced him to stay in hospital for the first year of his life. Doctors were sure he would not make it through that first year, let alone 37 years. Jason has been a fighter right from the beginning and continued to be right up until his final day. He fought hard over the years to stay with us, making it through 6 lung collapses, countless hospital stays, a double lung transplant, strokes, epilepsy and kidney failure. Many times he made a complete recovery after doctors had exhausted all their resources and given us the worst possible news. He truly had 9 lives, we always joked about that. Even with the countless setbacks, Jason graduated High School with his class, made many amazing friends and touched the lives of so many. He always tried to keep a positive attitude, even when the chips were stacked so high against him, but he never gave up! Jason loved spending time with his family and friends, going to the cottage, playing cards, watching movies, doing puzzles, visiting his friends at Papa’s Pizza and waiting for that next winning hand at poker. Jason is survived by his mother Linda Dunn, sister Jennifer Pyke, son Joseph Dunn and his mother Steph Hartling, nephews Bentley Tinney, his Aunts Jo-anne Gorthy (George) and Maureen Rootham (Larry), many wonderful cousins Darren Gorthy (Sharon), Adam Rootham (Terri-Lynn), Sean Rootham (Paula), George Gorthy Jr. (Doris) and an abundance of loving friends especially Sara Manu. Funeral services to be held on January 24, 2018 at Carson Funeral Home, 290 First St., Midland. Visitations from 11 AM – 1 PM with the funeral service to begin right after. Reception and light lunch to follow in the gathering room of the funeral home. If desired, memorial donations to the trust account for his son Joseph would be appreciated by the family.
