The evening of December 6, 2015 at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia Ruth B. Mowat (Beaton) made her last summit. Ruth and her husband John Mowat (2002) walked many miles together through the mountains in Alberta they both loved.
Ruth is survived by her sisters Bernice (Ernest) Barnett (Newmarket) and Evelyn (Lloyd) Horne (Orillia) and her brother John (Helen) Beaton (Watford). Ruth is predeceased by her siblings and their spouses Bert and Maude Beaton, Charlie and Louise Beaton, Annie Beaton, Donald and Jeanne Beaton, Danny Beaton, Sheila Beaton, Alice and Alex Trickett, and Bill and June Mowat.
"Aunt Ruth" was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews and their families. Ruth shared her love of nature with all those whose lives she touched. She personally supported generations of family in reaching their educational goals and lovingly assisted many through life's challenges.
Ruth taught English as a second language in Calgary and introduced many new Canadians to the country she loved. She led girls and leaders in the Girl Guides of Canada and taught skiing at the Alpine Club.
Her last adventure was moving back to Ontario to be closer to her siblings over the past three years. Ruth's family is thankful for the wonderful care she received at Trillium Manor and Leacock Lodge and Care Centre in Orillia.
A memorial service to celebrate Ruth and her life will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox Presbyterian Cemetery, 1604 Line 9 North, Oro-Medonte (at Old Barrie Rd East).
Memorial donations can be made to the Girl Guides of Canada or one of the many other charities Ruth supported and will be accepted by the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
